I stayed in the dorms and they allowed absolutely NO PETS! There is no way most colleges would allow reptiles. Plus, you have to think of the kind of life the iguana will have hanging around a bunch of crazy drunken college kids that may hurt him without meaning to. It's not ideal. If you plan to have your own apartment where you can keep him in your room and you can pay for his vet bills, then it is possible to keep him. However, maybe finding a good home for him is the best bet...unless you can get your mom to fall in love with him and keep him there (not really fair but it's happened before)
Otherwise, possibly others can suggest a reptile rescue organization in your area. Many people on this forum rescue igs themselves. These people only allow them to be adopted to the most qualified and responsible homes.
