: Iguanas are so easy to fall in love with. Perhaps that's why I currently have two of them right now. I have had Iguanas for several years, I have had them from birth to death and have breeded them. I love them so much I have an iguana tatoo on my right foot. Your situation is not too uncommon. And most likely it could have been a combination of several things. Most likely your pet was ill from the start. Being outdoors on warm day will not hurt thrm unless they are put in an enclosed area. Like a fish tank with a glass or plastic lid, where air could not cirulate. Iguanas are warm weather creatures. That's why you find them in the southern and dry areas. But they do need to breath. In fact iguanas do require a certain amount of heat to survive. That's why a heating rock is highly recomended. They need the heat to digest their food.
: If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

this is Chip at john's comp. I have not been impressed with heating rocks to date; unless considerable protection is used between the rock and the critter. they will work in a pinch, but i prefer the ten dollar heating pads you can buy at your local dept. store. they are easy to regulate for temp, in three settings. used under the enclosure, or with the cloth cover left on them, is fine for the under heat required. temp setting has been useful for seasonal temperature changes. I have had first hand experiences with reptiles that have been badly burned and scarred on their bellies from heating rocks. Not a pretty site. It's hard to say whether or not the iggy was ill from the start, but the possible magnification of the suns heat through glass without proper monitoring is an issue.
