Hello,
My 3 year old spiny tailed Iguana (Ctenosaura similis) was spayed on 9/11/00, she had 24 eggs taken out. However now about 1 year later she looks fat again. She eats and poops every day although the poops are smaller than usual. Last year when she had eggs she didn't eat or poop for A month and a half before being spayed. She doesn't dig or scratch around now either like she did last year. She went off feed 3 months ago for a month before she gradually started eating again. While she was off feed I called the vet and he said if she doesn't start eating in 2 weeks to bring her in for x-rays to see if maybe he missed some follicles and see if she does have eggs. But almost 2 weeks later she started eating. But not as much as normal. She continues to eat every day and poop small poops though.
Has anybody had this happen after a spay? Does the organ that feeds the follicles swell up to make the lizard fatter? I am debating weather to take her in for x-rays even though she is eating. I would have to loose a day of work and pay. don't get me wrong I will do this but I thought I would get some feedback from some of you "greenies" as not many people keep "spinys" and I know you guys are pretty caring, experienced and knowlegable. I am hoping that this is just what happens the year after a spay, sort of going through the motions of gravidity but not being gravid.
Any feedback to this matter would be appreciated. The pic above is several weeks old.
Thank You
John Styner
