I just got an iguana from my sister two days ago. Her kids no longer wanted to take care of him and she didn't have to time to give him attention. So I have a few questions.
He seems to be ajusting OK. At first when you went anywhere near him he would arch his back and somewhat swat his tail. Now two days later, you can get close to him, or he will actually sit on the back of the couch behind you without getting
agressive. I still can actually touch him without him trying to run and can't even think about taking him out of the cage or putting him back in without protecting my hand with a small towel. I let him roam for about 4-6 hours when I'm home from work, he hides for the first 30-45 min and then is in the open for the rest. Will this help to get him used to me and not try to claw my arms off? Also, I have put a basking lamp where he can either sit on the table or arm of the couch (seems to be his spot now) for him. He has yet to go to it tonight and he's been out for about 4 hours now. He was under it last night for quite a while. Is it ok for him not to be under the lamp?
Second question is his eating. he act some lettuce last night. He has basically been on lettuce and ig food for the last year. So that was all he would eat last night. I am trying to gradually get him on fruits and veggies and went and got alfalfa pellets instead of ig food. I mixed some peas, kiwi, and yams with the pellets. He wont touch it. I did poop earlier so I think that is a good thing. But how do I get him to eat? Do I stick with just lettuce? I have read that it isnt going to do anything for him.
Thanx for any help you can give...:-}
