Hi Jonathan! I am 1/2 of the Ds that Craig mentioned and yes, we use Active UVHeat bulbs and love them!

I jsut replied to another post closer to the top of the board titled www.myiguana.com on lighting and basicly covered the smae ground that I will be covering here.

On our website The Iguana Spot, I have just started putting up pages that address Active bulbs as well as basic UVB issues. I suggest that you go read them. If you still have questions after that, either my husband (Mr D) or I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Craig is right, the website you were looking at is probably a little old. It used to be that there were no non-fluorescent producing UV bulbs on the market, that is no longer true. The UVA, UVB and heat producing Active UVHeat bulbs are a byproduct of maufacturing plants that use these lights which put out high amounts of UVB to check for flaws in their materials. There is some controvery over the supposed safety issues with these bulbs but after using them in 5-6 enclosures in my home for the past few months, including a 55 gallon aquarium, I have found the claims to be baseless.

Samcin gave a great site to read more about the Active bulbs (http://www.myiguana.com). I know the author and have complete trust in his information, he has helped us out several times when we have gotten very sick iguanas in through our doors. Though some of his information can be a little too scientific and hard to understand, most of it is written in simple terms.

Like I said, go check out our website and if you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask.
