Maybe I'm using the term "renal failure" too generically... "renal problems" or "kidney problems" might be more acurate.
Also, I say she's not doing well but, compared to 2 days ago she's better. Not great, not 100%, but better than she was.
Have continued the enforced basking (although after work now, so for shorter periods) pedialyte, slurrys & warm soaks. She's allot more alert, but still having a hard time picking herself up to walk. Don't get me wrong...she CAN (if she wants to bad enough) either pull herself along w/all 4 legs or actually raise her tummy off the ground & walk if she REALLY wants to get somewhere. There no mad Ig dashes going on anywhere though.
But I'm real worried improvement might be temperary (think I read something similar in both Iz's and Melissa Kaplan's stories) either due to the Saturday amakacin inj or just the fact she's rehydrated, getting force fed and basked.
I really appreciate the clear headed input. I'm going to continue to monitor the board throughout the evening and call Dr. K (the quicker ultrasound guy tomorrow). To hell w/his call screening receptionist!

: what about seeing Dr. S on friday but just for an exam, not for the procedure yet???
: especially since she's supposedly got lots of herp-experience, *maybe* it'll be glaringly obvious to her what the problem really is??? (it was when iZ + i *finally* found our Dr. M ...)
: i'd also wanna choose her just because it *IS* the soonest appointment *and* cuz she can do follow-ups ... but i would want the surgeon to do a fairly complete physical *before* scheduling *any* invasive procedure ... and i would think the surgeon would want it that way as well!?
: and not to make things worse for you ~ but blood tests can be *very* misleading ... iZ's blood tests didn't give any indication of the massive kidney damage that was found during exploratory surgery ...
: i find it hard to believe that it wouldn't show up on the x-ray if she was egg-bound ... but then, i have a male + that's out of my realm of experience ...
: but ~ i also find it hard to believe that an ig could be "in renal failure" and it not be *obvious* to a qualified ig-vet ...
: *heavy sigh* ...
: if *i* had to choose?
: i'd get in to see Dr. S as soon as possible ~ preferably before friday ~ for a complete exam, possibly new x-rays ... since there is a possiblity that this is renal failure, i would think/hope that she could see Shirley ASAP ...
: hopefully, she will be "The One" for Shirley!!!
: but i would not schedule any invasive procedure with a vet that hadn't "passed inspection" yet ... (between me + iZ, that's not easy! :) )
: another thought is to try to contact somebody who does consults that could maybe give your vet some more feedback/input ... Dr. Fred Frye comes to mind ... not sure if Dr. Doug Mader is available to consult or not ...
: hang in there!
: {hugs} + *headbobs*
