In Reply to: (Shirley) we're down to diagnostic choices (long) posted by RJ Mello on August 21, 2001 at 16:10:19:

what about seeing Dr. S on friday but just for an exam, not for the procedure yet???
especially since she's supposedly got lots of herp-experience, *maybe* it'll be glaringly obvious to her what the problem really is??? (it was when iZ + i *finally* found our Dr. M ...)

i'd also wanna choose her just because it *IS* the soonest appointment *and* cuz she can do follow-ups ... but i would want the surgeon to do a fairly complete physical *before* scheduling *any* invasive procedure ... and i would think the surgeon would want it that way as well!?

and not to make things worse for you ~ but blood tests can be *very* misleading ... iZ's blood tests didn't give any indication of the massive kidney damage that was found during exploratory surgery ...

i find it hard to believe that it wouldn't show up on the x-ray if she was egg-bound ... but then, i have a male + that's out of my realm of experience ...

but ~ i also find it hard to believe that an ig could be "in renal failure" and it not be *obvious* to a qualified ig-vet ...

*heavy sigh* ...

if *i* had to choose?
i'd get in to see Dr. S as soon as possible ~ preferably before friday ~ for a complete exam, possibly new x-rays ... since there is a possiblity that this is renal failure, i would think/hope that she could see Shirley ASAP ...
hopefully, she will be "The One" for Shirley!!!
but i would not schedule any invasive procedure with a vet that hadn't "passed inspection" yet ... (between me + iZ, that's not easy! :) )

another thought is to try to contact somebody who does consults that could maybe give your vet some more feedback/input ... Dr. Fred Frye comes to mind ... not sure if Dr. Doug Mader is available to consult or not ...

hang in there!
{hugs} + *headbobs*
Bon. + iZ
