Spike Question

I have a new rescued iguana that was infested with mites. I have religously been treating for mites and think they are finally gone. I have noticed lately that my ig has been shedding a lot, and, in fact, has now started to shed some of his spikes. Is it normal for an iguana to shed his/her spikes? And if so, will they come back?
