RE: Sneezing: Herbivores sneeze a combination of salts mostly potassium chloride the frequency depends on the amount of these salts that build and must be eliminated. Some igs go a month or more not sneezing, then some periods when their enclosure is caked with these salts. As long as your ig is sneezing excess I wouldn't worry about that!
Re: feeding amount...depends on your ig. Some igs don't want to eat everyday if its weather, a large meal the day before, breeding season, illness, behavior. Adjust it as YOU need to. If you are setting his food out and he won't eat it in an hour lets say...refrigerate it (container and all) in a freezer baggie or? and try again later or next day.
Re: adjustment period...give him a couple of weeks. Try to duplicate EVERYTHING the previous owners did (lighting, handling, feeding schedule etc)...and gradually get rid of the bad and put in the good. Iguanas can't handle change very well...you might want to consider handfeeding him for a time...a getting to know you act. I don't know how old or big this ig is but if its a big guy...be careful...when igs stress they can also become quite unpredictable behavior wise (biting, whipping etc)
Re: supplementation: I SUPPLEMENT!! plain and simple!! Altho I don't as frequently as most the FACT REMAINS...that green iguanas DO NOT get enough calcium because of bioavailability of the calcium in the foods they eat. But given a very good varied hi calcium hi fiber diet (if he's an old dog!) supplementing w/ vitamins and minerals
is NOT necessary. We cannot reproduce the exact nutrient requirements of green iguana....only TRY.
To Supplement or Not to Supplement: Its up to you! Supplementing is always a good idea when you are dealing with a baby, a sick, gravid, lethargic, stressed ig. If supplementing...go with a pure calcium carbonate (no Vitamin D) and a childern's multi-vit....3 calciums to every 1 vitamin...crush..then sprinkle on food as you would salt your own food....mix thoroughly.
Lots of sunshine & water;humidity) and lots of love, time and patience...that's my persciption for this ig...lolol no charge...lololol
