Ditto on Xta's opinion of Vita-lites...In fact, I've heard that the company is no longer in business - someone correct me if I'm wrong...
ZooMed ReptiSun or IguanaLight 5.0's are the best fluorescent tube that we've seen so far and even these need to be within 12" of your ig to do any real good. You can also try looking at ActiveUvHeat bulbs for a stronger UV source.
As far as mites.... What have you tried for remedies so far ? Around here we have been fortunate enough to only have had to deal with them on 2 or 3 occassions. In all instances we used vegetable oil rubs to smother the mature mites followed by a Betadine bath.
Remember that EVERYTHING in the tank must be completely scrubbed down with either a bleach/water sol'n or vinigar/water sol'n, thoroughly rinsed and aired out before the ig is re-introduced into the enclosure.
Also, this method may only be successful on mature mites. Any eggs that have been laid may not be affected although we have been lucky in having zero recurrances....
As for the coloration of the scales... Only time will tell... Keep an eye on them as they may be somewhat difficult to shed for the next few cycles due to any damage sustained.
Let us know what you try/have tried and keep us posted....
