In Reply to: Protein: Where do I get it? Parsnips posted by Diana on August 13, 2001 at 11:52:34:
I fed parsnips when I first got Jade but I was thinking I read somewhere that they contain one of the things that can be bad for ig's if fed too much. It might be the thing that can cause thyroid disfunction (I'm thinking it was bad to feed to my dogs too and I normally just stay clear of the veggies that can interfere w/ thyroid function for my dogs). I can't remember what it's called but it's in broccoli also. I don't know about the amount of protein though.
: I'm not positive about this, but it runs in my mind that parsnips (they look like a white/cream colored carrot and are in the produce section of most grocery stores) are a pretty good source of protein for igs. Mine eat them readily.
: Anyone care to confirm or disagree with the adequate protein content of parsnips? I can't remember where I heard that they're a good source of protein, and I'd hate to steer Ivan wrong, so if you know anything about parsnips, please post.
: Thanks,
: Diana
