I have seen the same thing at a local reptile store here! It always bothered me because it is one of the best, most informed stores in town (not saying the place doesn't have some problems). Anyway, they would take iguanas that were dumped on them (usually the 3-4 footers) and resell them. These iguanas would always be in horrible shape much like you described. I thought is was not only disturbing to LOOK at them and have unknowing customers think that is what they SHOULD look like, but how unethical to sell an animal to stupid people who don't know it is in need of serious medical attention. Why are they selling them at all???? They claimed to be rescuing and I guess this was their way of paying for the food they bought for them while they were there. At one point they stopped doing this and also stopped selling iguanas all together. This made me very happy. (only carried snakes and other reptiles) Now they are selling babies again and it makes me sick knowing that they KNOW how many of these little guys will end up just like the bigger ones that come to their doorstep.
