Hi Iguana-philes:
The newt/press guy has a question for a iguana-loving friend (Time to pay the piper, eh?). Her ig is fed better than I am at home!
The subject is a 3 year old male iguana with no history of problems and has had no significant change in his enviroment in the past 6 months.
During his last 'shed', parts of the shed have remained behind his head for the past 14 days ... and have not 'flaked off' in the 1st week of shedding as was the norm prior to this event.
The ig-companion (PC for owner) knows enough not to pull off the shed (the edges have curled up), but is somewhat concerned that she should be watching for "infections under the dead skin" (her words, not mine).
She's tried soaking the area with a warm, damp towel (with the fully appreciation of the ig), but only gets 'damp edges'.
1. Is this a mjaor concern?
2. If so, what is your recommended treatment?
Last, the ig does not seem distressed by the retained shed (if it is); it is not scratching the area, and (to this newt person with some experience with snakes), the skin adjacent/under the shed area appears clean, clear and healthy.
The temperature and humidity in the iguanarium appear to be apprpriate IAW the de Vojoli books.
Your experienced assistance and ideas would be appreciated.
Thank you;
Wes (for Tina, who does not have a computer)
