Ok...How about general "house fuzz" sticking to the blood ? Did he free roam at all while he was on vaca ? Even though the cage was coated he may have just rubbed it raw enough to bleed. You can try putting him in the tub and letting the humidity try and loosen it a bit. You could also take a small amount of Betadine and gently cleanse the area with a q-tip. Betadine (povidone iodine) has antiseptic properties. If it IS a cut that'll help clean it out. Just rinse him with warm water afterwards....
