In case you were wondering you can also use a calcium liquid. I bought a no-name calcium liquid at the drug store that will probably last us the rest of our lives but it came in handy during Benny's recovery stage of his MBD. It contains no sugar, starch, gluten or yeast.
The contents are as follows:
each 5ml teaspoon contains:100mg (5mEq) of elemental calcium from a mixture of calcium glucoheptonate (132 mg/ml)
Non-mediacl ingredients: FD&C Red #2, Flavour, Lactic Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium cyclamate
*sweetened with: sodium cyclamate less than 0.3 calories per 5 ml
We just got an eye dropper and orally fed this liquid to Benny til the vet said it wasn't necessary. The first few times it took a bit of holding and prying of his jaws but once he got used to it I think he actually liked the stuff. Later on he even sat there with his mouth open when he saw the eye dropper!!! Amazing how iguana's know when you are trying to help them.

: I was at the dollar store buying a bucket to age fish tank water in and decided to buy calcium supplements for the iguana with my extra money. I really don't care whether I can use these or have to buy tums, but I asking in case I can use them (I'm thinking I can't use them).
: They're called extra strength "Calcium Antacid Tablets" antacid/calcium supplements (berry flavored). It says "**Compare to the active ingredint in Tums E-X" on the front. They are also made by the distributor of tums. The active ingredint is calcium carbonate USP grade, 750 mg per tablet. The 750 mg of calcium carbonate in each tablet provide 300 mg of elemental calcium.
