not really any ig-specific concerns for minor wound care ... except that since igs are cold-blooded, they heal much slower than mammals + so you'll need to keep an eye on it longer than you would for a cat/dog ... important during this time to keep his environment warm, keep his metabolism up to help him heal quickly ~ (like don't let his enclosure cool down as much as usual at nite for a while ... )
clean wound with betadine ... use silvadine or plain ol' triple antibiotic ointment ... don't try to put a dressing on it ~ it'll only upset the ig + prob'ly isn't necessary ...
IF it's necessary ~ Baytril is the antibiotic drug of choice for igs (easier on the renal system than others) and is just as effective given orally as it is given by injection ...
there are widely differing opinions as far as the use of antibiotics ... *personally*, i am extremely paranoid about infections simply because igs hide things so well that it's easy to miss ... and iZ almost died + now has chronic renal failure, caused by a low-grade bacterial infection that went undetected ... + untreated ... so i'm paranoid about stuff like that ... :)
IF the wound is very deep, or very large, you might want to consider at least a short run of Baytril ... but that's for you + the vet to discuss/decide ...
good luck! let us know how it goes!
Bon. + iZ
