Welcome Shawn, from one Ig newbie to another :)
I've only had an Ig as a friend for a few months. I just moved to Florida, to stay with my girlfriend, and she's had Skittles (a male) for a couple of years or so. He's like yours, wild as crazy; this probably due to the fact that he escaped and wasn't found again til a year later! (3 houses down the road I might add, heh).
Anyway, when I got to FL about ummm.. four n' a half months ago, he was just wild. Wouldn't even let you put his food bowl in without snapping and whipping you with his tail, but he's started to calm down a lot (and we've actually been able to give him baths recently).
One thing I did try, which I sorta transplanted over from caring for anoles (my first reptiles), was spraying him. This was before we knew they should really have regular baths. If you get a lil spray mist bottle with some warmish water in it, and give him a couple of sprays, on his back & head, and he'll probly raise his head up a little and let you spray and stroke under his tummy (Skittles loves that).
There's only myself and my girlfriend's son who he's actually let touch him until a few days ago when he started warming up to my GF too.
I'm looking into building an out-door enclosure for him, as he's still in the 2'x2'x4' "Large" cage the GF got from the pet shop a LONG time ago, as soon as I saw him I knew he needed bigger.
Plus we just got another female yesterday (about 18 Months old), fed on monkey chow :`( (Not by us!). It was previously owned by a local teacher, and it was in her class with about 30 kids or so, so is pretty tame. She is just a lil bit bigger than Skittles (from what I've read, the animal nutrients cause Iguanas to burst in growth - the main reason Petshops think it's "ok" to give them dog/cat food; They're getting bigger, so it must be good for them! NOPE!), and she was in a cage just a bit bigger than Skittle's. Right now, both their cage doors are open, the cages side by side, and they're out loose in the back porch (which is basically a 20'x12' room) until I can get the new outdoor enclosure built.
Right now they're both layin' side by side on top of Skittle's cage (outside it), and just go inside the cages to poop.
For anybody reading this who might be able to help... For an outdoor enclosure for 2 Igs that, apparently, seem to get along great with each other, is 12'x5'x8' large enough? (like I said, they're both around 18-24mo old, and they're around 40-45" snout-to-tail).
