Green iguanas are arboreal and so are always more confortable off the ground. So long as he isn't right up against the heat source then the temp gradient should be ok. It also sounds as though he has decided that the lower level is to be his toilet and so is unlikely to loiter there, igs can be very fastidious in this regard in my experience.
Calvin loves heights -he freaks out if he finds himself in the middle of the floor and will never settle for a shoulder when the top of one's head is even better! And as for curtain rails - pure bliss. He only makes exceptions come bath time although like any healthy ig he'll readily abandon his principles for some crunchy greens :-)
