With me doing an internship all summer in Oregon, my boyfriend at home in Kansas is fostering my igg, Louie, while I'm gone (and don't worry, he has been trained very well and is appearing to spoil her more that I do! lol) and he as been giving her baths three to four times a week. Usually when I give her a bath, she hates it and climbs incessantly to try to escape the tub, which is good exercise i think! Well, the other day, she did something really weird for her. She actually stayed at the "deep end" of the tub, bent her legs so she was scrunched down, and submerged her entire head under the water and remained like that for several minutes, until my boyfriend got scared and thought she was drowning! He pulled her up and she scratched the hell out of him, refusing to get out of the tub! As soon as he let go of her, she did it again, and wouldn't even allow her head to stay above water! This was done purposely, as the tub water wasn't even as high as her shoulders.
I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this...is this some form of "suicide" or what? Is she okay when she completely submerges herself and sits there, motionless? Can they breathe under water, or was she holding her breath the entire time? This is strange for her; although she generally likes the water, she always stays in the shallow end, lets us pull shed off of her, and then is ready to get out after just a few minutes (letting us know by climbing). but this time was odd. any suggestions? anecdotes? anything would be great.
And by the way, I have a feeling she is becoming gravid, if that means anything concerning her behavior. I told my boyfriend to make a nest box immediately if this is the case.
thanks, all!
