Í agree with most of what is allready posted and this was on a little bit further down and I just have to copy the answer I had down there:

I always get scared when people say things like " I've had it for so and so many years with no problems" and "my kids know how to react" ( no offence intended ). The problem is that it MAY only take ONE occation and it becomes a life time problem! NEVER forget that accidents allways tend to happen just that particular second that you don't look - the phone rings....the meal gets burned on the stove..and so on.
I agree that there can be problems with ANY pet, but regarding iguanas there are several aspects to consider...free roaming for instance gives the germs possibilities to be everywhere and grow, regardless of how much you wash your hands and change clothes...the handling risks are also many and when things happen they do it in a split second, maybe with a lifelong scar in the face or a serious whip with the tail in the eye as a result.
I don't say that you should never keep kids and igs, I'm just saying that you should never take it lightly and NEVER ever think that its without risk if you just use common scense, because we all know that you can't be alert 100 % of the time!!
Beside that you also know that igs may change their temperament VERY quickly, form a calm lovable cutie to a raging monster!

Also regarding children:

...and that is that kids at low age DO NOT KNOW how to behave. They are very good at being good whenever you look, but when you don't they try to test the limits. AND, kids do what you do and not what you say, which means that they WILL try to handle the animals as you do when they get the chance. No one could ever convince me that this couldn't happen, cause it is a healthy, normal behavior in a kid!
