an iguana is not illegal in NYC [at least to sell in shops, i know b/c i worked in one], but a reticulated python, uromastyx, bearded dragon, etc... is not? i mean, i know what iguanas are capable of [i hvae one that was abused at one point] and i have the scars to prove it, but come on now.... these people are saying that a 20-30 foot long constrictor snake is perfectly fine to have as a pet, but an iguana is not? id rather leave a small child in the room with a caged ig than a caged adult reticulated python. i mean, sure igs are strong, but they prolly cant escape if the cage is shut properly. havent you ever heard of a snake getting out and strangling a kid? i think we all have. ang igs, while the can whip, bite, scratch, etc.... cant literaly strangle the life out of you. ever been bitten by a large bird? you cant say that hurts less than an ig bite, or scratch, or tail whip.
ive been more hurt by my boyfriends cat while playing all in good fun in a single day than i hvae in 2 years of taking care of a nasty once-abused ig. when my puppy was teething, she played a bit rough and bit a lot, and that hurt a ton more than anything my ig can do.
so ive had an ig for a while, and soon he cant go outside to sit in the sun in his outdoor cage? even if its padlocked and covered in chains? why is that? there are laws saying you must ahve control over your animal and be responsible for anything it might do to others. so my puppy stays on a leash, knows not to bite, and everything else stays indoors. im reaady to take responsibility for my igs actions. granted, his actions include running and hiding, but being responsible is part of the job of a pet owner regardless of the pet you own. little kids cant pet him. adults cant pet him. i keep him away from peple, and ppl away from him. but being in a room, with the door shut and locked [to keep people out]in a larger room, with the door shut [to keep the puppy out], in a house, with the door shut and locked [to keep strangers out], isnt good enough? might he be a threat? can he open 2 locks and three doors? probably not. if so, i think he deserves to be outside wherever he wants.
ridiculous. a completely asinine decision.
Sam's going to miss his outside cage...
