My ig is about 8 months old...I've had him for about 3 months and as far as I know he has never been treated for worms. I've read a few places that ig's are like puppies and kittens...they just have worms until treated (I have another question about that later). My question is can I have my ig de-wormed w/out haveing a sample of his stool checked?? Cats and dogs are wormed every so often w/out testing...can ig's be?
Now, the born w/ worms question...Puppies and kittens are not born w/ worms...they get them from the mothers milk. Once a mother cat or dog has worms they are always able to spread the larvae to babies no matter what. You can treat them for worms but the larvae is always there and can't be killed. It may never grow in the mother but is passed along to offspring when they nurse. Now, that being known how do ig's get worms. They can't be born w/ them and they don't nurse, so how can a pet get infected?
