In Reply to: I'd like to take my iguana out with me more... posted by Audrey on June 18, 2001 at 18:16:10:
Hi there....My Iguana is around 3 years old and not very sociable either. I took him out one day and he got a little wild in the car and sat on the top of the seat openeing his mouth at me to let me know he was not to be touched. This was after i brought him to my local petstore and he leaped off my shoulder!faster than i thought possible! and jumped on this guy who was wearing green! he was trying his best to bite him! Needless to say Miya has not been back out~ I keep him at home and he still likes the yard! Maybe he thought i was going to leave him there and it maddened him!LOL~ He had been bounced around to diff homes as he grew up so his memories of pet stores are probably not wonderful~ Now he is happy and I will keep him safe at home! I did however buy a baby Rhino Iguana that i plan to tame and get him socialized. So far his temperment is great! I think once they are a certain age socializing them would be very hard. You don't want him getting hurt or lost out there~ Once they reach a certain age and are not tame they can easily flip out of your hands~ The crocidile roll makes it impossible to hold on!! Miya knows all the tricks~ plus if they get mad or frightened they could bite you as well~ Trust me there bite is PAINFUL! ~
My iguana is about four years old, male, and not the most sociable animal I've ever met. He's not bad though either. He likes being outdoors, but I haven't yet found a way to get and keep him in a leash without him throwing a tantrum.
: What can I do to get him accustomed to car rides? Or taking him out in public like a small town carnival type event? I mean, he always wants to jump off of me, and I'm afraid of him getting scared by loud noise. Is he just too mature to start learning and getting used to these things?
