Thanks for the help...I didn't think he was hot because it was only 85 degrees out. He was in the sun for the most part but as we turned and the sun was at different angles he was also in shade some. He has never freaked out while in the car...when we first got him we would allow him to free roam in the car but always kept the windows and top up. He, for the most part, would ride on the head rest of the seat. After a while we started putting the windows down about 1/2 way and I kept him on my lap or sometimes he would climb down my leg and get in the floor. We worked our way to having the windows all the way down and the radio on. We've slowly introduced him to riding in the car and he's always relaxed while riding. Thanks for the word of caution though...I'll keep that in mind.
