There are better sources of Calcium these days then Bonemeal. Although it used to be used widely as a good Calcium supplement, things have changed.
A preferred choice would be Calcium Sandoz a liquid form of Calcium
Calcium Carbonate tablets
Calcium gluconate
I will quote from Earl Mindell's vitamin Bible a little bit about Bonemeal
Quote:
"Bonemeal, Oyster shells, and dolomite, although good sources of calcium, may contain lead or other toxic substances."
Another Quote:
"Bonemeal, formerly one of the most popular supplements, is no longer recommended because of it's possible high lead contnet. (Check with the manufacturer for an analysis)
Calcium gluconate (a vegetarian source) is definitely lead free and easily absorbed."
Unquote:
This is a human vitamin Bible, so I wouldn't take bonemeal myself neither would I give it to my Ig.
Also in order for the Iguana to absorb the Calcium it needs UVB lights and Natural sunlight
D3 can also be added.
A diet of high Calcium greens and veggies is also important.
that's my 2 cents worth :)
You can print this off and show it to your vet if you want, perhaps he was unaware of the possible lead properties in Bonemeal
