hi Lisa!
if possible, i'd make the enclosure a bit wider than 2.5' to give your ig plenty of room to turn around and stretch ... even 3' would help ... now that iZ is almost 5' long, he has problems turning around in some of his favorite hidey places ....
other than that, your plans sound pretty good ... that's basicly the set up i had for iZ before he got his own room .... his enclosure was in the corner of our livingroom, and when we got home from work, we'd just open his door and he could come and go as he pleased (under supervision!!!) til bedtime .... just make sure that when he's roaming about he can get to a warm spot when he wants to .... oh, and i always put him back in his enclosure to eat so he'd associate it with good things ....
