Baby Herp,
I appreciated the links to the studies done using Aloe vera on wounds and burns, and also the one on zinc oxide. Both are great references for us Iguana owners.
I'm currently using aloe vera on the burn my iguana got from touching his ceramic heating unit. (It is now modified to prevent such an occurance from happening again.)
I used the silvadene cream the vet proscribed for him, gave him his full dose of oral antibiotics for a week, and washed the burn twice daily with Nolvasan solution. After following the whole regimine, I started putting the gooey clear gel from inside the aloe leaf on his wound about two times a day. The rate of healing was astounding!
Initially, the vet said that the burn was so deep that he probably would never regrow his scales on that area, but would only have a shiny white scar in the end. But, I'm happy to report that his scales have almost fully grown back on that area now! Aloe vera has anti-scarring properties, in addition to wound healing properties.
Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for the links to those articles.
Have a great evening!
Diana
