Hi, my name is Sharon and I am new to this forum, so I thought an intro was in order. I am a long-time snake/lizard/amphib owner and have gotten my first iguana since the death of my lifelong iggy pal, Malachi. I had gotten Malachi when he was already past his juvenile stage and he was with me for almost 11 years. He passed away several years back (presumeably from heartache after his mate of 6 years, Azuria passed on, and I swore I would never have another iggy because the loss was too great....I got so attached to the two of them and even when he was a huge 6 foot MONSTER, he would perch up on my head/shoulders and walk around with me, scurry into the shower when I was in there and sleep curled up on the foot of the couch when I watched TV. I still miss the big guy...
WELL... I just couldn't help myself, and I have adopted a baby iggy. I have the vet appointment set to have him checked out, but am a little fuzzy on care and maintainance of a juvenile so young. Malachi was 3 when I got him, and Azuria was a little over a year and a half...This new baby can't be more than a couple months at that (about 12 inches from nose to tail end (full tail)). He is so adoreable... came home the first day and was eating his greens from my HAND!!! I didn't think juvies were that quick to acclimate...and I had planned on months of training (like with the others) This little fellow is tame and loves to be handled...even comes over when I walk near his tank. I am in love all over again!!!!
**ANYWAY**
Is there anything I should be particularly aware of in caring for such a young iggy that I would not think of based on my past experience? I know they need more calcium supplementation and their temp needs to be higher in the evenings...I have the diet established, and my baby is eating GREAT...Also, I am told they need more frequent mistings. What am I missing?
I want the very best for this little guy...
Appreciate any advice you can offer.
