I live in FL but keep my lizards in doors. Eventually I may make some outdoor cages as I have in the past, but for now they get direct sunlight when I open the window in the lizard room in the afternoon.
You definitely need to make sure they have some shade ALL times of the day (which can be tricky sometimes because you want them to have the sun too!) THey will start gapeing and turning pale when they are VERY overheated. (and they panic)
I am not sure about ants... my only outdoor enclosure so far had been on a balcony with no ants. Ants will definitely be after their food.
