Well ya've been to MK & Kevin Egans site...so your getting a good start. Caution w/ Merl on puter....he may just leave you some software that downloads way to easy and has been known to crash a few puters/monitors I believe its called the SAL VIRUS!! ;-)
Sunlight is free and best uvb that even the highest emitting uvb lamps cannot duplicate!! If ya can't get him out in the sun, have a basking shelf set up in front of a secure WIRE ONLY (uvb does not penetrate glass ) screened window....then yeah ...you gotta get artificial uvb lighting (uvb exposure is essential!!)...usually 4 ft long flourescent tubes with 2 prongs on the ends, that fit into those shop light hoods with electronic ballasts ....there are a few screw in uvb emitting lamps that are appropriate to use...but sometimes they are harder to find like Spiralux Active UVHeat is a terrific lamp...check out there website to order (CA. company). It depends on you & your needs ...you may be able to get away with not needing artificial uvb lighting till fall-winter if you can get Merl out in the sun a couplea days a month. At any rate...Welcome! Look forward to reading about your observations & experiences (good or bad) with Merlin!
