Our male, Harry is pretty darn aggressive (usually). Like Xta posted, one day he is sweet, friendly and a joy to be around and the next, he was totally out of control. He'd lunge at us. He stalk us (especially HD). He would bash himself against his cage trying to attack us. It was very upsetting to watch and live with. This has ben going on for 2 years now.

We hauled him to the vet and ruled out anything medical. We tried various drugs. We tried reducing his hours of daylight. We tried covering his cage so he couldn't see around him. We tried begging him to behave. We discussed neutering him and decided against it. Nothing worked. I feel that like other animals, some just turn mean.

I hate to type this (I know I'm going to jinx this), but for the past month or so, Harry has been acting "mellow" by Harry's standards. I can reach in and give him head rubs (briefly). He's let me pick some spike sheds off. His good mood doesn't last too long. Its like he realizes that "Oh! I'm supposed to be MEAN" and reverts back to his aggressive state. The few moments I do get to "love" on him are precious. I still wouldn't trade him for anything.

We've learned that you CANNOT wear white around him. Nor, red caps (HD). Isn't it nice that your ig dictates what you wear?

We do use welding gloves when handling him. We also carry a large towel when he is out and about to throw over him if he charges us.

I guess we're just willing to put up with him (and he with us). You gotta love his spunk. ;o)
