Sometimes igs are mean because they are sick and don't feel well. Have you taken a fresh stool sample to the vet recently? How are his cage temps, UV light, and diet? These are areas to explore before assuming he will stay that way. For your sake, I hope it is something easy. During breeding season most males do get mean or crazy.
