Personally, I don't like to tempt fate when it involves another being whether human or animal. I used to walk around 100' in the air on 2" steel pipe for a living but rock and roll people do a LOT of dumb things....LOL... I also never recommended it to others....
For that reason, along with the fact that it's cheaper for us among others, we've gone with carpet. Yes, it may do strange things to an iguana's "natural instincts" but once they cross the border into the US there is a slim to none chance that they'll ever get to actually use the majority of those instincts again. Who knows, they may be replaced by some new instincts born of the new surroundings. Dharma has been starting to beat me regularly at Super Mario. I never knew that their thumbs were so developed...She also seems to concentrate better when she listens to Tito Puente.
If you've been having good luck with pine bark, more power to you...;) On top of an impaction risk I'd also be concerned about what the effects of any sap residue may do to them if ingested. What *I'm* interested in is exactly where you live that they actually regulate the type of housing that an iguana receives....;) That, to me, is definitely a step forward......
