According to Maders:
Most species of gex for instance do not. A heat gradient is important to ALL reptiles.
Day geckos(diurnal)however do need uvb (natural or artificial) exposure.
Monitors, BTS, tegus (optional) assimilate Vitamin D needed for calcium metabolism from livers of prey food items.
I have provided very little uvb exposure to my 2 6-month old cycluras...maybe 4 hours total in the last 5 months so I don't know if its optional for them or not (some cyclura keepers do not provide uvb others do)..How much is enuff? No one knows!
