Ditto to what Bon said...

You need to prove to her that YOU are responsible and that YOU will care for the animal, not eventually get bored with it, and stick HER with this beig green monster. You'd be surprised at how much money an iguana burns. A CHECK up cost me $40. And then, you need to take iguana to the doc. when he/she gets sick, or has problems like Vega$ did. A female iguana can get eggbound, and that costs a whole lotta $$. Are you prepared to pay for it? I might wait to get a job and then get the iggy, just to be PREPARED for the worst. People usually get the impression that because the iguana (at petstores) costs a little, will be cheap to maintain and keep healthy. WRONG! Bon goes into the bills and such in more detail.
Think long and hard if you truly ARE ready to are for this animal. Do you care for, and pay the bill sfor the collared lizard? if not, then maybe mom's afraid that she'll be stuck with more bills to pay.

Welp! I'm off to mop!
