of Burghardt & Rand is the one who did them! I wish I had a copy of his findings...just because MK has frequently cited the findings but Ive never received any answers to any of my questions about them.
I gotta question Rand's results because SO SO many Mexican, Central & a few South American natives I have spoken to DIRECTLY insist that green iguanas in the wild have been observed to eat insects, crustaceans, eggs, and carrion especially when young (low dwelling) or during adverse conditions (inavailability of fresh plant matter). Im suspect of Rands study (not knowing the specifics) because really don't know what the ages were of the igs he analyzed, did the necropsies encompass a diverse area throughout the equator countries or a restricted/specific populace, how long was this study? what were the conditions/availability of plant matter at the time the necros were done?, how did he acquire authorization to slaughter 31 iguanas to find out if they were folivores, when repeated fecal analysis would of sufficed? There are people who make a living at scatology! Im not trying to discredit anything Rand implies...but to question it is all. I too like Travis (if I may be so bold) do agree with you as far as keeping captive GGIs herbis. And my vet is basically an idiot too! lolol he keeps telling me to feed my igs dog food! Blech...being so involved with human aspects of medicine as well..I think its everyone's personal responsibility to research as much as they can about the health of their pets and themselves! Get 2nd 3rd 4th opinions if necessary. Drs.& Vets are not infallible. In nursing school and med school you take 1 course in nutrition. I don't know what kind of training in nutrition vets get I bet not much. Ive witnessed several human surgeries where Drs. screwed up badly....go to check the patients chart post op.... to find NO mention whatsoever of the damage they had done. I just couldn't handle that kind of hush hush, back the Dr up and never question his authority mentality,so I got outta OR. Ive been on the Research Unit 7 yrs now and love it and yes I get ALOT of Drs. mad at me because I question them on some of their observations or orders, and on occasion Im right and get them to modify orders ...but they would never admit to being wrong EVER...now if I can only get up enough nerve to tell my igs vet NO I won't give my GGIs DOG FOOD! ITS ANIMAL PROTEIN AND GGIs ARE HERBIVORES and YOU'RE AN IDIOT .......rolling!!
