Discussion: Urates-melissa
post from 11/29/00 asking about urate changes ...

now Gina, i know that you despise MK but since she is NOT the only moderator on that particular forum and it IS also monitored by well-known iguana veternarians who did NOT correct or in anyway add to her explantion, it is not JUST her opinion and so i feel pretty confident in saying that YES, during mating season it IS NORMAL to see *some* sediment in ig urates ... it IS caused by some degree of dehydration which is easily remedied by increased water intake ... it IS something you can correct without recommendations of a herp vet and it is NOT a sign of kidney function or MALfunction in + OF ITSELF ...

while it is ALWAYS a good idea to have blood panels done on a routine basis, this does NOT seem to be an instance where the igs need to be rushed to the vet + subjected to that ... and if anything ~ i'd take a sample of urates in before the blood work ... blood tests are NOT an accurate indicator that all is well with ig-kidneys ... trust me on THAT one, I'VE LIVED THRU the false sense of security that the lack of medical knowledge about ig's blood gives!

Bon.
