there isn't a real good handle on ig-physiology + what's what ... using parameters that make sense for humans + other mammals isn't always much help when it comes to igs ...
i still think it's a good idea to have routine blood work done, if nothing else, it's how we're going to learn what *IS* normal for them ... and a simple blood panel that gives the Calcium:Phosphorus ratio is a good way to *know* how you're doing with their diet, whether they need supplements or not, etc ... and it will show info about infections, dehydration, etc ... i don't want anyone to think that there's not a good reason for blood work being done! it's just not always as helpful as we'd wish ...
but 18mo ago when iZ was going downhill at unimaginable speed, his blood work indicated "only a slight possibility of kidney problems ..." ... i very seriously doubt that his doc would've done surgery if he'd had any clue to how bad iZ's kidneys really were at that point in time ... he'd have apologized and sent us home to call Hospice ... well, after he did do the emergency exploratory + SAW what was going on, he DID send iZ home to die as far as he (the doc) knew ...
so yeah ~ blood work isn't always an accurate indicator of what's going on inside an ig ... it's NOT an 'end-all' to definitely say there's NOT a problem somewhere ...
very frustrating to say the least!
Bon.
