yes! there are about a zillion different kinds of head bobobobobobobs!!! and YES! they all mean *something*!!! the BIG trick is to be able to learn what they mean ... iZ is *still* teaching me new ones after all this time ~ he's either making them up as he thinks of them, or i'm a slow learner ... *grin*

one of the best indicators to if it's a threatening bob or something else is the rest of the ig's body languange ... if an ig is puffed up and/or leaning towards you as he bobs, BACK AWAY! this is ESPECIALLY true during mating season, when he's going thru hormonal surges and is everso-slightly insane ... shhhh ... don't tell iZ i said that!

if the dewlap is ridgedly extended, that is also a more threatening bob ...

but yeah, bobobobobobbing is how they are trying to get us to understand SOMEthing ... it's how they communicate ... along with the various patterns of bobbing ("shudder, shudder, bobobobob" or "bobobobobob shudder bobobobob", etc) pay CLOSE attention to what the rest of his body is doing ~ if it's relaxed, or if he's tensing up ... if he's layin' flat on his belly as opposed to standing up ... it's also important WHERE he is when he bobs ~ if he's lower than eye level with you, it's leaning more towards at least a slight threat than if he's looking down at you ...

iZ's bobs:
"hi humommy" when i go up to his room to get him for his bath ...

"thanx for the good salad humommy" ~ when his belly's full + he's gonna snooze alittle before bed time ...

"NO humommy" ~ when he realizes i'm gonna do something he disagrees with (NO i don't wanna go to bed, NO i don't wanna take a bath, NO i don't wanna let you trim my dangerously sharp nails ... etc)

"rub my back humommy" ~ when he's soaking in the tub + wants his back rubbed! (nah, he's not spoiled!)

"stir my salad humommy" ~ when he's munched most of the salad off his supper plate + wants me to re-arrange it back into a nice little pile for him ... (nope, i still don't think he's spoiled!)

+ the infamous "ummmmm, humommy?" ~ when he turns his back to me while he's in the tub + looks over his shoulder + bobobobs ... means he wants me to ummm, help ... remove a stuck seminal plug ... ok ... MAYBE he's spoiled ...

but my big "disclaimer" here ~ during mating season all bets are off!!! it's PMS to the max and is a form of insanity ... during mating season, you may not get very much of a warning ... watch for that glazed look in his eyes + you'll know that he's not really in there, he's been possessed by an evil horndog ...

start learning his language NOW while he's still smallish! at a year + 1/2 old, he is *probably* not gonna go totally nutso with hormones yet ... but then again, igs make up their own rules ... *grin*

good luck!
Bon. + iZ what's a horndog humommy?
