Rhinos are very impressive animals. They grow to be very large (over 20 pounds!), but only reach about 4 ft. in length. They are very stocky, thick lizards. Diet is similar to that of green iguanas. Temp. requirements are a little higher. Rhinos are INTENSE baskers. I would recommend they get natural sunlight. Outdoor enclosures are ideal but many people in cooler climates keep them indoors. UVA and UVB are REQUIRED. If you intend to breed however, warm climates and outdoor enclosures are a must! They are practically impossible to breed indoors.
These are very personable animals. Often very skittish as juveniles but with regular handling, tame down very nicely. Make sure you study up before making your purchase. These are ground dwelling lizards that require floor space. You can meet space requirements for green igs by building up, but rhinos are not climbers and will likely require a MINIMUM of 8' x 4' of FLOOR SPACE as adults. Be prepared to make a lifelong commitment. There are documented captive animals at 30+ years right now and some think they may live twice as long! Animals range in price from approx. $150 to $350 for juveniles (much higher for subadult/adult animals). If you are seriously considering buying a rhino, John Aristei has some for sale right now on the classifieds page. He is a reputable breeder and a doggone nice guy, and he's asking a very fair price. Feel free to email me with any questions. Good Luck!

Heather

: What advice do you have for someone interested in purchasing a rhinocerous iguana? Is their care similar to the green iguana, and how is pricing, size, etc.
