Long Island is not part of NYC and last year I heard about a fair in Long Island giving away free iguanas to 7 years olds. I heard from his Grandma and she was the oldest of 4 children and the ig got loose in the house and they were worried about salmonella. Cute, huh?

That is why I asked about Long Island. I also heard that a fire station had a fair and was giving them way in NY State. My advice is to have people hound the SPCA which is headquartered in NY.
