not all igs are as kooky as mine! My last male didn't get as hyper or go through this type of behavior. For some reason, Sleestack (who knows perfectly well to wait for me and I take him to the bathtub to poop) gets extremely hyper and neurotic during mating season (at least the last 2 years) He just cannot sit still and bask as he normally does. He isn't happy no matter where he is in this mindset-- I don't think he knows what to do with himself. He hasn't figured out how to mate yet and is terrified of his luv sock (green sock filled with rice--recipe on internet on how to get iguana to mate with this to get out some sexual frustration) Anyway, he just seems confused and is looking for something he cannot find. He'll pace and pace and scratch and claw at every door and window and fireplace and wall. As far as the pooping and smearing goes-- it's not territorial LOL. I notice that when iguanas get upset they sometimes poop. This is the case with him. He poops 3 or more times per day (and yu can tell he really doesn't HAVE to go becaue sometimes it is very tiny) The fingerpainting (as I affectionately call it) is just the curse of an active iguana! When he paces, he drags his tail and steps in his feces (no matter what size room he is in!) and makes quite a mess of himself and his surroundings. Obviously this is the worst side effect of his behavior.
On a happy note, he appears to be back on schedule today "so far" and I am staying away from him until the late afternoon to kind of see if he forgets about all the activity yesterday. When in this mood, seeing people makes him CRAZY because he expects to be let out ASAP! When I open his cage door (when he is in this state, he flings himself at me from a couple feet away, giving me a great big iguana hug and kiss--- which is nice UNLESS he is covered in poo!!!!!uggggh....
Anyway, hopefully yours will be more mellow like my last male, although they all have their little quirks LOL. Regardless, you will notice some strange signs when he goes into mating season (at least, find little seminal plugs around-- and he will turn oranger and act a bit more fiesty like a teenager!)
Hope this long rambling answered some of your questions!!!! Can't wait to hear what stories you have in the future...
