i'd be really seriously concerned about abcesses ~ especially *plural* as in more than one, more than one ig, more than one time ... an abcess is an infection and while you maybe *can* treat the external problem + seemingly clear up the outside sore, you really DO NOT KNOW if you have truly cleared up the underlying infection or not ... an untreated infection CAN spread without you knowing it until it has spread so far and/or done SO much damage to organs that the ig is near death ... or dead ...

the abcesses, plus the mites, plus the fact that your igs may be small for their age, plus the fact that they free roam makes me say that you *really* need to take them into an ig-vet + get a more expert opinion than what ANY of us here can give ... we can *guess* but we can't tell you for sure + *that* is what you need ...

as far as treating mites ... the only place i know to send you to is MK's site (link below) cuz i know she has info on that + i don't have any experience with that ... (thank goodness!)

the prob with free roaming is that your igs *may* not be staying warm enough + so they *may* not be in the best of health ... that's what makes me worry about the abcesses ...

infections in igs scare the poop out of me cuz iZ + i have gone thru hell cuz of that ... he had an infection that we didn't catch until it had nearly destroyed his kidneys + killed him ... we're not even sure *where* or *what* the original infection was ...

as far as size, your igs *do* sound on the small side *but* there are soooo many variables that contribute to that, it's really hard to say that they should be bigger ... (MK's site also has a comparison chart on igs + size ~ interesting!) ...
iZ is 5.5yo, 5'6"stl, and 11+ pounds ... scroll down a bit and you'll see a pic of Charles who's also 5yo and is *6'4"* and *20* pounds ... but iZ's long distance girl-friend also just turned 5yo and is pleasingly plump at 7.5pounds ... it's NOT a question of size, it's a question of their overall health + happiness ...

(i gotta quit trying to talk to people on days that i just worked 10hours ... do i make any sense???)
Bon.
