I live in FL but was born in Minnesota (consider myself a yankee, but I was certainly raised in the south!) My mom said I loved grits as a little girl but she never made them like my daycare did so I wouldn't eat them from her kitchen! I still like them now and then with eggs and cheese. Now they make those handy instant grits with cheese (by the instant oatmeal in the grocery store) and I can eat them at work! Yum...don't knock 'em (I could never eat them without cheese or some kind of other supplemental food) Anyway, I thought they were homminy (or something) Is that corn? I never knew...

I've never heard of Poke salad.

Lean beef isn't as good, but we do eat it when disguised as sloppy joes or the like (better for the figure).

BBQ has never been a favorite but I'm sure the South must know what they are doing. I love pork, but you haven't had great pork until you've tried it Puerto Rican style (all roasted and peppery, melt in your mouth) It's the best pork you could ever taste (and I'm not Puerto Rican)!!!
