I believe that Iguanas use their tongue for smell and that is why she appears to be licking her lips, but really she is smelling. You will know when she is trying to bite, she will open her mouth with other signs of stress!!! And I am unsure if it will hurt or not by a 1 footer, but I know mine bit me last week and she is 2 feet and it hurt!!!! And they will let go, but dont pull away because they use their teeth to tear and if you pull away you will have a nice piece of flesh torn ;o)
