This definitely sounds like there should at LEAST be a phone call put in to your vet if not an actual trip. Could be any number of things happening here. Carpet fibers causing circulation problems, infection from a small cut that you never noticed, torn claw, etc...
As far as "splinting" the toe, that's fine - IF it was known that the toe was *simply* broken. Not having ANY idea as to exactly what is happening with the toe and just assuming that one course of action taken by your own assumption is DEFINITELY a great way to further the rolling ball along towards a possible amputation. What if the problem is NOT a broken bone but you apply a splint anyway and wait the average 6 weeks for the "broken bone" to heal ? I'm not sure just how quickly infections progress as a rule but waiting that long would just mean that you're that much behind in treating the ailment.
This is why it is always best to seek professional veterinary advice, whether it be a visit or just a phone call, ESPECIALLY if you're at all new to keeping iguanas. "Store bought" igs are just as if not MORE prone to disease, malnourishment, and general health problems than any iguana that has been adopted because in most cases, the owner has at least tried to do SOME positive caregiving whereas the majority of(not all)pet shops we've seen are completely inept at any kind of "husbandry" skills - mainly because they're not in it for the "enjoyment" of keeping an ig. They're in it for the money.
If you don't already have a vet you can try locating one at www.ARAV.com. ALways try to make sure that the vet you choose is one that is familiar with herps and not just "guessing". Even now some vets that aren't fully educated on the care of iguanas still advise the feeding of dog food and other animal protein as part of an iguana's diet. Make sure you know who you are bringing you ig to. If you are at ALL unsure of what to expect from a vet visit feel free to ask out here or contact any of us out here directly.
Good luck and please keep us posted...
