Good thoughts, but I will add a couple points:

The poly is a GREAT idea for any gaps in the joints, but the bare walls should not be harboring any mites or eggs. They simply will not lay unless under cover, or in a gap of some sort. Also, you would also need to treat whatever is used as flooring. Astroturf provides a wonderful place for mites to hide and lay eggs.
