Kim, escarole and endive are essentially the same thing. The different names are given to different leaf varieties of Cichorium endivia. You are right, there is an enormous amount of confusion and mis-information about Kale ( not just here but on the tortoise and bearded dragon forums as well!). Kale has a decent Ca:Ph ratio and is quite low in oxalates. It is one of the goitrogenic veggies however so feeding large amounts for a long period is not advised. Swiss chard is high in oxalates and is goitrogenic as well. I would suggest adding Kale rather then chard for variety.

: I want to find something to add to my igs diet since I cant find Mustard Greens lately. Currently this is what they get:
: collard greens, green beans, carrots, green pepper, parsnip, butternut squash, strawberries, dandelion leaves, escarole & aruguala.
: Can I add swiss chard &/or endive into the mix? AND, WHAT is the truth about Kale... is it bad? I hear mixed stories on that one.
: Please let me know what you all think.
: THANKS!
