I agree completely with you that there must be an environmental cue for them to poop in the desired location. I have been trying to find some info regarding where they poop in the wild. The rain forest is relatively moist, so the wet paper towel method would probably mimic this which would make the tub method inconstistent in reproducing their wild environment. However, for there to be an occurrence of an elicited, natural response, there must be a natural stimulus which will produce the response. I am not sure if it is species or individual specific behaviour. Some food for thought........
