We're not big fans of CHEs and believe that we have found a safer, more economical heat solution in the form of radiant heat panels. While the initial cost may be more, the money you save in electricity and by not having to replace them is well worth it. They have an internal safety mechanism that shuts them off in the event of an emergency, come with a 10 year waranty and the surface temperatures do not get hot enough to cause serious burns unlike a CHE. We have been running the one we have in the 3x6x6 enclosure that we have been unable to finish the doors for and even with no way to trap the heat in, Mel stills stays relativly warm. I think the main consideration in trying them, for me anyway, was that you run much less of a risk of fire with the panels than you do with the CHE. Our house is well over 100 years old and so I do understand that I may be more cautious that someone else for that reason alone. I also like the fact that there is nothing for a roaming iggy to knock over. Again, it's a safety issue.
